Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU)

Introduction

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is a thermoplastic elastomer that combines elasticity with thermoplastic processability. TPU is used where flexibility, abrasion resistance, toughness and durable surface performance are important. Typical applications include footwear components, tubing, seals and gaskets, wire and cable jacketing, automotive parts, consumer products and industrial components.

• Abrasion resistance: TPU is widely selected for applications exposed to repeated wear and surface contact.

• Oil and chemical resistance: many TPU grades are used where resistance to oils, greases and common chemicals is required.
• Thermoplastic processability: TPU can be processed using conventional thermoplastic methods such as extrusion and injection moulding, depending on grade.
